VA NATIONAL CENTER FOR PATIENT SAFETY (NCPS), nationally recognized leader in health care patient safety improvement located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is seeking a human factors engineer (HFE) to join its team. The HFE serves as the resident expert in human factors engineering; assists in the design of patient safety tools; and evaluates VA environment of care patient safety design issues from the simplest medical devices to architecture and space design.

The HFE will work closely with colleagues at NCPS as well as those at other VA program offices and healthcare facilities to understand workflow and usability needs; provide consultation during various phases of a system design/redesign lifecycle; aid in new concept development through user interviews, surveys and observational studies; participate actively in design reviews; and conduct heuristic evaluations, run usability tests, analyze usability data, present findings, and monitor user feedback and satisfaction.

Preferred applicant will hold a Masters degree in Human Factors Engineering or Systems and Safety Engineering and has worked or is currently working in a health care/medical setting using the HFE/SSE skill set. Salary $58,996-$91,928, commensurate with education and experience. Relocation assistance available. Excellent benefits package.
